I wouldn’t call switching kernels that hard. It takes a few clicks and a reboot to do. However, they kicker is that you need to know to do that. You don’t know what you don’t know.

No, for one Red hat has every incentive to support Fedora. Also Fedora does its own thing separate from Red hat. Red hat does have some control but the community elects leadership and the elected leaders are what control the project direction. Also Fedora has a lot of volunteer package maintainers that would stop working if there was a hostile take over.

Notice that the community has left Ubuntu which used to be the community go to. They no longer have a large community working on projects and maintaining software.

Because it is stable and works really well. It has GUI apps that are not only not broken but well designed and snappy.

Honestly China makes me really sad. It has such a long and rich history and now the government seems to be completely separated from the government.

It is in fact not that secure by default. It lacks a way to manage the desktop in mass. Not to mention is also lacks a firewall and selinux but those can be enabled. Also I wouldn’t trust the lock screen as it can be bypassed because it is Xorg.

Linux Mint is very good for general usage but I doubt its security in a military application. It is better than before which is good.

The actual implementation would be per desktop. The desktop draws to the screen and then the apps connect to the desktop. We already have a window capture XDG portal that is used by things like OBS. We could huild a simular portal for just text on the screen. We would just need some way of either recognizing text or even better some sort of image to text engine like what is in Firefox.

Linux isn’t great in terms or high security. It isn’t bad but it does have a lot of CVEs. I imagine there is some highly compact and locked down OS used.

Rockets probably use a dedicated OS that is safety validated. Getting something validated for critical operations is a massive endeavor.

Chances are at some point it will be removed as it requires valuable man hours to maintain. At some point it will be a massive hindrance. I don’t think it will be removed for a while but it probably will be forgotten about.
