I used to get Proton Mail from the IzzyOnDroid Fdroid repo. But now it’s not in his repo anymore. Afaik this was mirroring the github release of Proton Mail at Proton’s Github account

Why is Izzy not hosting the apk anymore?? Is there another F-Droid repo that is mirroring this?

And no don’t tell me to use Obtanium, i don’t wanna use yet another app updater.

Also I want to say that Proton’s absolute refusal to put their apps on a non-Google platform despite their non-stop blog posts of how evil Google is, is downright HILARIOUS at this point 😂🤣

I have been wondering this too. I am planning to move and am not sure how to get it working with K9 or if they will have their own official app. Perhaps I will decide to just not have email on my phone.

On a similar note, does Proton’s Calendar support the fossify and gnome ones?

proton bridge allows you to use any mail client you want. but it’s a paid feature.

uhh not sure about the calendars. you’d have to check the file types that each supports.

That’s a no on Proton calendar working with third party clients. The encryption makes secure syncing difficult, either decrypt it before transit and have it be insecurely sent, or share the decryption key with the third party app so that it can decrypt the data once it is received, which has its own concerns.

Yeah 🥲. I used proton calendar for some time but ended up going in on WebDAV nextcloud centric calendaring. It’s been more complicated, but at least it is very open (while still being private enough for me)

yeah they are. but i dont know if those were actually pushed to be in fdroid by proton themselves.

but it doesnt matter really. Mail is by far their flagship product and they refuse to direct people to anyone but people, and maybe github if you find the right page, which someone did link, but obviously is extremely inconvenient.

also proton refuse to release a build that isn’t injected with google depedencies. ew.

I don’t like Proton but they are the lesser of the evils, especially legally, and offers me the most features that I want and like.

I hear you there. I’m still using their email somewhat, but am transitioning away from it. I do lean on protonvpn as well, haven’t found another trustworthy free service that I can use for those few times a month I need to be on some public WiFi.

Tuta is where I’m at for now. They have stricter privacy than proton and are much more active in their app development. They have an Fdroid release for android and a desktop app for Linux which make life pretty nice.

I have had some connectivity issues with their servers lately though, especially on desktop. I don’t know if it’s my DNS setup or if it is unreliability on the server end. In any case it hasnt been too bad.
