Often it’s the ones that only take a second or a minute and minimal effort that get put off the longest and create most anxiety. I was discussing this with a friend last night: I’ve had numerous non-ADHD people explain to me how I just need to create a task list, not realizing that 1: I know all the shit I have to do…I’m just…waiting…, and 2. When I do try to set up lists and organizational systems, I get sucked into a false productivity hole and spend an inordinate amount of time on the process/list/automation crap, and then when it’s perfectly set up, I maybe use it for a week but inevitably revert back to the chaos

The only way I get things done is by doing something to procrastinate at something else I should be doing. Couple this with inner restlessness and the guilt I feel for not getting the things done that I need to and voila! We have productivity!

Granted, it’s all in the wrong order and I’m exhausted due to my inability to just sit down and relax for a minute. But, look at all the stuff I’ve gotten 3/4 of the way done! Pats self on back

Adderall has been a life/game-changer for me on this. Now the challenge is finding some kind of way to organize the tasks in some fashion that I also remember to reference every time before starting a new task. Also trying not to get ducked down the rabbit hole of getting to focused on a hobby project to the detriment of my work. But damn, I sure can focus now!

As an adhd diagnosed man i couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately I like my addy a lil too much and had to stopp.

Which is unfortunate cause I’m pretty sure the fbi and I were forming a pretty right bond. They only spoke to me after taking 5 pills at once and after being up for 3 days. My Dr took my script away. I just wish my fbi agent would come back l. He was my only friend

Impossible! I’ve got 20 other things to do before I can get to that, and none of them are getting done!

          Something something laundry!

You know it only takes two minutes to throw a load in downstairs and another two to toss it in the dryer after an hour?

You just don’t understand! I’ve been busy all day watching the kids!

By staring at Facebook or yarning for 90% of the time you watched them? You unironically equate scrolling Facebook while passively watching kids as they entertain themselves and watch TV as the same thing as working 40+ hours a week multiple times until someone points it out again.

Stay at home jobs are important and most of the ones who do are doing it because they had no great careers that offset the cost for daycare or nannies. But let’s not pretend like watching 1-2 toddlers is the same thing as working in a daycare or working a full-time job. Especially if the partner who works is doing their fair share when they are home. The monotony of watching children is something self fulfilling if you aren’t doing fun interesting stuff with them just like certain jobs can be.

I always found it an interesting parallel that someone’s PTO is the equivalent of doing the stay at home job lol. Like, your job is my vacation lol.

It’s always a weird little blind spot for so many people but definitely those with ADHD. Hard to see the forest for the trees and all that.
