Hi everyone!
2025 is here, and I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Voyager for Lemmy.
- What features would you like to see added to Voyager in 2025?
- Are there any bugs or issues that are bothering you?
💜
Wow so many replies with suggestions. Seems like I’m in the minority of people who thinks the app is pretty functional as is and does everything that I expect.
The best way i can put it is that during wefwef days and the early voyager days, I would look out for every update as functionality and polish was getting added. Nowadays, I dont actively look out for updates because the app is already soo polished and functional. I still like the QoL features that are getting added and appreciate them but the app is and will remain great even if development stops today.
Also @aeharding@vger.social, take breaks and relax - Voyager is great as is
When you maximise an image without going into the thread itself (I.e. tapping the image displayed in the feed), if you press the back button, it exits to your instance list
Would prefer if it only exited out of the maximised image
I’d like to save drafts and have it connected to the post or comment I’m replying to.
Be able to search my saved comments and post.
I’d love it if deleted posts included a link to the mod log to easily see if it was a case of moderator power tripping or just some asshole commenter.
Honestly, i just love voyager as it is. I’m still on reddit, but use voyager/lemmy like 4x more by now. So i’m sure there will be great improvement ideas here, I’m here just to thank you 💪💪
Thanks for all the work.
- It’d be great if user tags and vote totals were included in settings export/import. Losing those would mean dropping Lemmy entirely at this point since I prefer to tag rather than block most problem users. Tag import is also critical if we want to write a script to import user tags from other apps like Sync or Boost (since it’d just be converting one JSON schema to another).
- It’s a longshot since I’m guessing it’d be incredibly heavy on API calls, but a way to import vote totals from Lemmy’s up/downvote history. Voyager’s vote tracking is the killer feature that had me drop Boost, but it was weird for the first week or so seeing people I knew I upvote all the time at only +1-3. We can manually set vote totals ourselves so someone could write a script to do most of the work outside of the app (especially if #1 is added), but a native way would be far more convenient.
- An option for long pressing the post thumbnail to show an enlarged preview of said thumbnail. Sync has this, if you needed an example of what I’m thinking of.
- An option to change what clicking on the OP or community in post view does. It’s an incredibly minor annoyance, but sometimes on Android I accidentally tap one of them when attempting to open the post.
The tags/votes not backing up is a bug, I’ll fix that asap!
- Tags are working great! Would love to be able to link to the comment that made me tag, too.
- Would be nice to have the searchable modlog instead of just myself
- If I’m in a thread and accidentally hit back, I have to go back through the list to find that post again. A “last post” or something in the menu would be handy.
- A bunch of gifs/videos don’t show/play, but it works in other clients, instead I have to open in a browser. That would be a nice one to hit.
- db0 added some flairs, which are apparently natively supported by lemmy, which is cool. They are gigantic in voyager (in comment threads when its posted standalone). Compare to the thread here. Would be great if this was supported to display next to the users in app too.
Definitely the one app I keep coming back too though, great work!
Would love to be able to link to the comment that made me tag, too.
That should already be there - in the header of the edit tag dialog for the user, tap the comment button. LMK if it isn’t working.

This is in the plans, just need to do it in a way that is apple/google store compliant

There is an issue for forward on github. Otherwise, for the post feed, hiding posts can be a good alternative if you scroll long distances.

If you have an example of something that doesn’t work in Voyager but does work in other clients, please let me know. I’m not aware of anything at the moment.

Neat - although it is not a native lemmy thing afaik.

I think I’m missing something… I’m on 2.32.2, I don’t see a comment button

I can’t remember what it was, I’ll have to check when I see it, don’t remember the URL unfortunately.
Edit: Just came across one with files.catbox.moe from this post
You should see this:
but it only works if you tag from the comment itself. So you need to long press username (on the comment), edit, write tag.
Ahah! Thanks I’ll give that a try
The flair icons are just lemmy custom emoji. This is native and they should be displayed as a normal emoji size. this is already handled correctly in lemmy ui and tesseract, but voyager displays them at their full size instead of resizing them to 48x48 or 24x24,which can dominate the comments
Reading these flair from threativore and displaying them in the ui proper (i.e. Outside of a comment) is not native and I’m still looking for ui dev buy in 😅
they should be displayed as a normal emoji size
OH yeah, I did make a tweak to that recently so emojis are smaller.
btw, I noticed that they are small on db0 instance but don’t look right on remote instances - e.g. https://vger.social/post/11849459
I think this is because the markdown needs the “emoji blah” class name - e.g.
![Facepalm](https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/0442a870-62f6-42e0-91ee-a664ba65b5b2.png "emoji facepalm")
(notice the “emoji facepalm” - prefix by word “emoji” make it small on remote instances I think)
Yes I know the markdown text denotes them as emoji, but lemmy by default doesn’t add “emoji” to all its custom emoji. Just the emoji shortname. I think the solution tesseract has is to display them at emoji size of they have “emoji” in that text, , or if it matches one of the custom emoji shortdodes. But I’m guessing the later in not possible in remote instances. Hmm, I can adjust my scripts to always add “emoji” there as well, but by default the lemmy ui doesn’t add it.
Edit Actually nevermind it seems it’s just tesseract not adding it. I’ll open and bug report for them
Mystery solved!
I don’t know if it’s my phone or my fingers, but I constantly have issues with hitting the *3dot menu when I try to hit the vote buttons.
Oh, and inconsistent back behavior. When opening images, sometimes swiping for back closes the image and returns me to the post list, and sometimes it backs me out of the post list and I can’t get back to the listing I had been looking through without reloading.
Are you on Android?
The one bug that’s always super annoyed me: clicking on a photo in my feed and when I swipe out it takes me to the “communities” tab where you choose Home/Local/All and it completely loses my place in my feed
I haven’t seen that before - if you get a good way to consistently reproduce please lmk. Android I assume
Indeed.
The ability to do sidebar editing would be lit!
Keep up with the great work!
Thanks! This should be doable. I think there’s an issue for it on github, not sure though
First off, you’ve made a great app. Makes me not miss Apollo one bit. Best Lemmy app out there, period.
And I’m on Lemmy because I don’t wanna be on Reddit anymore. Or on X, YouTube, instagram, fashbook - all the exploitative, controlled-media, oligarch-run platforms.
I’d love if Voyager became an ever better tool for that. Give me the option to flag, block or filter out any reference to those platforms. And better yet, automatically propose / replace any posted link to those platforms with a fediverse alternative whenever possible.
Also, I’d love to get automatic context with any given link. I would love to know whether a site is reliable, what country it’s from, who finances it, what political preference it has, if it’s billionaire-owned, etc. All inline with the link itself. There’s online sources for a lot of that info - integrate them into voyager!
This age demands smart tools that make us more informed of what’s going on behind the deluge of info. Voyager could help do that.
Thanks!
Perhaps some work on a sidebar for navigation for tablets or desktop?
I know Apollo never had that, but when I’m on my iPad I tend to use Arctic simply because it uses the real estate better. But I use Voyager on my phone.
That’s in the plans, nothing is blocking this other than my limited time haha
This would make it feel better in desktop browsers too.
True! I just use lemmy-ui or alexandrite or photon on desktop rn, which are great.
Wow Voyager is such a tribute to Apollo that we even have a “one day I promise” tablet layout that has yet to appear.
Searching in the settings would be great
Yeah, settings is getting a bit much
Previous Apollo user, this is where it’s at. Without Apollo support I dropped Reddit. Without Voyager I would most probably not be on Lemmy.
