I’ll admit it took some doing to find.
Due to lemmy.world blocking pirating communities, I will now be using !CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com
I’ll admit it took some doing to find.
This exactly. NAS+RAID gives you a backup of your local media. It can account for one of your three copies and one of your storage mediums. But you still need something off site.
So assuming you had a copy on your computer proper, it could work. Better than no backups.
I wish there was a good way to store a backup of my media. I recently suffered a terrible hard drive issue. I lost a terabyte of media. Fortunately, the pirate ship has saved me and has me rethinking some of my backup methodologies.
Outside of periodically backing up onto an external hard drive, I haven’t been able to find a reasonably priced online backup solution that isn’t going to fuck me when I have to pull data out. Egress fees are killer.
It’s definitely worth learning. I had the damnedest time with docker until I went to a meetup and had someone ELI5 to me. And it wasn’t that I wasn’t technical. I just couldn’t wrap my head around so many layers of extraction.
The guy was very patient with me and helped me get started with docker compose and the rest is history.
Basically yes. Once you go inside a cave like this, it gets dark real fast. You can’t tell where “up” is and you can’t find your way back. So these people often drown or suffocate.
In cave dive training, you learn how not to do that.
From lemmy.world’s perspective, I get it. Our current legal framework makes it damn near impossible from a financial standpoint to take a stand against corporations with pocketbooks the size of some first world countries.
But the rise in piracy is a direct consequence of these corporations’ actions against their very users.
Piracy has and always will be a service problem. I don’t think lemmy should be used to share torrents for example. But honest discussion about the current state of affairs and alternatives should be allowed.
The admins took a measured approach here and it’s one that is refreshing given the regime that many of us came from.
The CVS app is my favorite example of this. Their app (at least on Android) is a fucking browser.
Walgreens is an actual app and works the way you expect it to.
