Fascism takes advantage of superstructural elements, which is why Eco’s list contains the elements it does in a kind of grab bag fashion. But it still has a material basis, itself being a response to a crisis within capitalism. I spend 8 hours a day gluing together spells my company purchased from a proprietary caster’s book to serve increasingly arcane (no pun intended) business needs. The US ruling class has been trying to do all of these things for decades. I’ve been treated like I’m insane for calling this out since well before Project 2025 was formulated. It’s honestly frustrating to see the amount of people finally coming around now that all their ducks are in a row and a second Trump term is looking more and more certain every day. Biden’s been literally doing Republican policies for his entire presidency and we haven’t heard a fucking peep from the liberal “activists” in my area about it.
