It’s not nearly as much fun to collect things. There’s no thrill of the hunt-- if you need a stamp for your collection, just go online and buy it.
Positive waves. Just an old hippie doing his best.

Bluesky is a lot easier to use fresh out of the box. Even though their feature set is quite similar, Mastadon has a clunky and confusing UI, and still lacks a native iPad app-- instead they offer a poorly ported iPhone app.
That’s led to more people using Bluesky, and it snowballs from there.

The chairs. My back hurt All. The.Time.
It’s impossible to learn in the midst of torture.
When my mother got breast cancer, my Facebook page suddenly filled up with ads for laetrile and quack clinics across the border in Mexico. Even though I know better, I might have grasped at straws had it come to that. Thankfully it didn’t, but I love my mother and Facebook was happy to sell that vulnerability to advertisers.
And the thing is, I had never posted about it. My two sisters had used the chat feature to discuss it, and FB made the connection.
That was the moment that privacy and encryption became important to me. Most encryption services have probably been infiltrated by the feds to some degree, and I can live with that. It’s the corporations I want to hide from.
Reddit has subreddits for 4chan and Truth Social. You’d be getting a curated snapshot, but it would let you view without making an account.
The Captian Queeg Maneuver. 😃
Comedian Ron White used to tell a story about being arrested for public intoxication, saying “I had the right to remain silent, I just didn’t have the ability.”
This seems like the same thing playing out in real life. All Donald has to do is not talk when it isn’t his turn, and his team is afraid that’s beyond his ability.
I got my first AI telemarketer, and that sucked.
I realized pretty quickly that it wasn’t a real person, but my elderly neighbor didn’t. She told me how bad she felt just hanging up on this “person,” but she just couldn’t get them off the line. (I told her I had the same experience, and I’ll warn her about AI Robots at a different time- I didn’t want to make her feel foolish.)
Barack Obama had a lot of great ideas, but I think people have forgotten how many times he gave up without a fight. His motto seemed to be, “We can’t win, so why try.” I really blame him for the demoralized Democratic base that stayed home and allowed Donald Trump’s win.
Harris needs to fight for progressive ideals, even if she doesn’t always bring home a victory.
Well, before doing something stupid my motto is, “Oh, what the hell.”
But what I actually strive for is, “Everbody’s suffering, so give them a little grace and maybe a smile.”
This is a little one, but: fix the post office.
Trump got a bug up his butt about mail-in ballots, so he put a postmaster general in place with a mission to destroy it. He pretty much has: the service is slower, more expensive, and less reliable than it used to be.
Biden was either unable or unwilling to remove him, but his term is about to end. Kamala will have an opportunity to put someone good in place who can rebuild what has been destroyed.
The reason I left Reddit was because the top comments-- no matter how serious the topic-- were dumb jokes and snide remarks. So in that context, no.
But I have a friend who sort of reminds me of Cliff Clavin from “Cheers,” and he can be fun.
It doesn’t bother me that it’s made in China, it bothers me that it’s shipping from China.
I’m careful to check now, but in the past I’ve accidentally ordered products through Amazon that were actually third-party China-based corporations. More often than not I didn’t get the product and had to jump through hoops to get a refund.
One of the two presidential candidates has five children with three different partners. The coverage of that fact would be very different it it were the female.
I’m considering it, but I’m leery of a pre-order from China.
I would use it primarily as an e-reader and a chat client. I use a desktop for my heavy duty computing.
The people who loudly proclaim that they “don’t care what anybody else thinks!” almost always care a great deal what other people think. The ones who truly don’t seldom announce it.
I don’t care what Big Dictionary has to say about it, “literally” does NOT mean “figuratively.”
If “literally” means “figuratively,” then we literally have no word for “literally.”
Right-wing extremists nearly always identify as “centrist.”
I watched cartoons on Saturday morning and Davey & Goliath on Sunday.
