You’re allowed to say you disagree with people transitioning.

That is your opinion, it’s terrible and makes you look like a terrible person, but you can have that opinion and deal with the fall out for telling people you hold it.

Saying what you did, can be construed as you disagreeing with them existing.

The hospital wasn’t doing anything illegal and now he’s looking at a 10 year prison sentence. He committed a felony, threw away his entire career and he didn’t even ‘own the libs’.

Step 1. Right wing anti-trans doctor steals medical records proving the hospital was providing gender-affirming therapies for trans kids despite publicly saying they would stop doing so (Though it was still legal to do so in Texas at the time).

Step 2. Right wing anti-trans doctor gives stolen medical records proving the hospital was providing gender-affirming therapies for trans kids to anti-trans conservative activist.

Step 3. Anti-trans conservative activist uses right wing anti-trans doctor’s stolen medical records to cause malicious harm to the patients, their families, doctors, and the hospital.

How on earth are you struggling to understand that this furthers the conservative agenda?

It’s not about the details of care, but the general information on who is transgender and who was providing or was involved in the care.

With the purpose to “cause malicious harm” as the article says. Which means, they will harass and try to scare involved parties into hiding, leaving or stopping to provide care.

This Conservative activist already published the information to discredit the children’s hospital, create a scandal on how they are harming children with the goal that the hospital will stop providing care in fear of bad press.

Their goal is to scare every trans person back deep into the closet (or to leave) and to scare all possible care out of existence, even when legal.

The basic motive is HATE. Plain and simple. Hate of that what is different and the need to control the people around them to live by their beliefs and moral standards.

The people that are desperately clinging onto the hope that this is any kind of victory needs a reality check.

In the extremely unlikely scenario that he actually gets jail time they’ll be high-fiving him all the way in - and you better know that any parole hearing he’s going to get (which will probably be sooner rather than later) will be staffed by people who think exactly the same way he does.

Hierarchy is the bedrock of reactionary politics - and it doesn’t get any more hierarchical than the (so-called) “justice system.”

That is not what they’re saying. They are saying that there’s only one reason anyone would need the name and address of trans children and that is to terrorize them. Even if they say they have a different reason (history shows that they don’t) the one only effect that they could and would have is terror.

This is not a case of somebody saying something smart but just wording it terribly. It’s no different than idots who spout “only cowards wear masks!” It’s something only somebody that has no familiarity with actual activism - ie, no familiarity with the actual stakes and risks involved in real activism work - would say.

HIPAA seems to be one of the rare laws that actually results in significant damages. Will be interesting to see the size of the fine on this.

Likely the hospital gets hit as well for allowing him access to medical records on patients he had nothing to do with. Shouldn’t have been possible in the first place.

This guy’s career is over. I’m sure he’ll do okay financially by selling ivermectin to bigoted dimwits, but I doubt he will be practicing real medicine ever again.

Shouldn’t have been possible in the first place.

I have yet to see a EHR that has access restrictions that would prevent this. Instead it’s just logged and if irregular enough you get to have a hostile conversation that could lead to this.

        Edit:

Haim, a Dallas surgeon, previously had done some work at Texas Children’s Hospital as part of his residency. The indictment against Haim alleges that in 2023, he asked to reactivate his login there to access information on pediatric patients not under his care, including names, attending physicians and treatment codes, then turned over the information to a media contact.

Okay, that’s just dumb. Texas Children’s Hospital is going to get fucked over this. Not only did he not have admitting privileges, he didn’t even fucking work there. This isn’t just a HIPPA violation, it’s straight up fraud.

In my experience working hospital IT medical providers can get away with a lot more shit because people try to expedite things for them so they don’t have interruptions caring for patients. The places I worked had processes in place to prevent this sort of thing but I had a fuckload of arguments with various middle managers trying to bypass those when a provider bitched that they didn’t get what they wanted right away.

Yeah it sucked. Fortunately I’m pretty much immune to that shit when I have something in writing to back my position. They could call me every name in the book, I’m not giving them what they wanted. After awhile it gets kind of entertaining watching them twist themselves into knots when they just have to do what they’re told. Especially when they tried emailing my superiors and I could hit them with a reply all explaining in simple terms why I didn’t do what they asked and exactly what they needed to do to get it done and have my superiors just be like “yea do that”

Republican hospitals are officially data leaks. If you get healthcare in an R state the data is up for public bid.

I wonder how many politicians stuffed shit up their assess, and what the cost of their records are.
