    Ah i see, time for ford to go down in the history books.

    Not like that will happen, but i truly think they deserve that as a result for even considering this.

    I’m already sick of the amount of ads that find a way into my private living space, but i’ve managed to negate 90% of them.

    “We need to make money” yeah sure, but not at the cost of me. If you want to make money off of me i need you to sell me stuff i get to keep and are actually worth the cost.

    I work too much and make too little to allow them to invade my private space.

      Time for a law to be passed that kills off this bad idea permanently.

      The main cause of fatal accidents is driver distraction. Anything that adds to it is moving in the wrong direction.

      They should also ban the use of tablet computers in place of proper displays and controls in vehicles.

    The system can listen to conversations and play ads when there’s a moment of silence. Or play a video when you’re close to the shops.

    Oh good, I was worried the slide into dystopia might be slowing down there for a second.

    So phones are illegal but not this? What in the actual fuck is going on right now. We are being forced so many damn ads it’s nearly impossible to get away from them. Now I need to worry about someone trying to hit skip instead of focusing on driving. As a motorcyclist I’m now even more terrified. Half the drivers now already don’t look up from their phones…

      Really? My battery is under my spare in the trunk.

      My lithium batteries on the other hand I think you have to remove the back seats to access, but I honestly hope I can afford to trade it in before I need it.

          I wasn’t trying to disprove the point, I was just curious what ford vehicles the battery is up front and impossible to remove.

          And honestly, for how often a battery needs to be removed, under the spare tire in the back is not bad at all, and there are still jump points under the hood and easily accessible. Clearly labeled too.

            Yeah, but on a car with electric locks, and an electric lift gate which I’m assuming yours has (could be mechanical, but most cars these days are crossovers, so I’m assuming that’s what you have) a dead battery means you can’t open the trunk latch. It’s absolutely a stupid place to put it. You either have to jump it to open the hatch, or go over the back seats while taking out the floor panels to get to it. My own car, the battery is under the hood, but there’s 2 plastic pieces that need to come off via push clips, and if you’re stranded and don’t have something to push in the clips and pull them out, you’re going to have to rip the piece off to get to the battery and break the clips or the plastic piece. It’s fairly simple, but that plastic serves almost no purpose.

            Probably talking about an Escape. Half the battery is under the wiper cowl, but it’s still not bad to change if you know what you’re doing.

          A pain in the ass was Chrysler’s brilliant idea to put the battery in the wheel well. You have to take the tire off, remove the fender liner then pray the hold down bolts don’t break (they will) then deal with trying to get the cables off with hardly any room.

    Ford stopped making thw types of vehicles I want to own several years ago.

    Until my current vehicle, every previous vehicle (over a period of 43 years) I’ve owned was a small, low options, affordable, fuel efficient 4 cylinder Ford.

    Since they stopped making anything like that to focus on F150s and bigger, I now own a Corolla.

    I’ve been saying it for years - business people are the scum of the earth. The whole situation is so stupid. Why do we train people how to make take as much money as they can… why not teach them to not be assholes instead?

      I want to blame shareholders. The constant drive to fuck the people working for you to make an extra 10 cents is disgusting. Record profits though! Here have a pizza party, only 1 slice per person though, more isn’t in the budget.

      I knew someone who taught Marketing at a business school and we had some really weird discussions. They do teach students not to be assholes. They do teach ethics. They do teach respect for the viewer. But what they teach for Marketing is very different from what we experience from Marketing.

        From my experiences it goes more like this “In an ideal world, we’d behave this way. We’re not in an ideal world though and your competitors have no problem doing this so you should know what to do, in case the market determines it’s the best course.” with a knowing wink thrown in.

      If it gets used at all, that would be the best case scenario.

      And it might even go down like things have with GM and their blocking Android Auto and Carplay (affecting their bottom line). And it might even affect enough that they’d stop.

      But that’d be the beat case scenario (still feasible, even in hypercapitalismworld. But unlikely)

    We had that. It was called radio. And the Satellite radio. If we could not continue this that would be awesome. Buy an EV they said. No thanks. No new cars or any kind for me.

        Ford has an abundance of EV’s and has been making EV’s for a couple of decades now. Automakers track all types of information about drivers, and it’s exhausting and all the new EV’s have all kinds of new tech specifically to track drivers just like ICE vehicles. The push for EV’s is pretty strong right now, and that’s the point of my comment. There’s a lot of media telling people that if they’re gonna buy a new car it should be an EV. Teslas are apparently being towed so that law enforcement can use the sensors and cameras to collect information and evidence of crimes. Then this news hits, coupled with an article a couple of weeks ago about how they’ve also patented a way for cop cars to more accurately determine who’s speeding and this whole present is a dystopian nightmare.

        You may only want to think about the good that EV’s do, but not all of us are so blindly optimistic.

        Somehow you took “no new cars for me” to mean just EV’s and that makes me question some things about you.

          Ah yeah I did misread you. My apologies.

          Though I don’t quite agree that EVs are getting more tech than ICE counterpaets. Remember BMW’s scandal around subscription heated seats? That definitely was not an EV-specific or EV-biased thing. That’s only one example, of course.

          Another is Toyota locking remote start behind a subscription - when the remote start was entirely over local radio signals between the car and the keyfob. Definitely not an EV issue.

          Or, multiple automakers being caught spying on drivers and selling the data. Much broader than EVs.

          On another note, EVs are better for noise, pollution, and climate but they still emit brake dust and tire particles, and they weigh more so they cause a bit more wear and tear on roads. More transit and less cars is vitally necessary, and that includes EVs, so I hope I’m not an EV zealot - just been driving the things for eight years and weirded out by bad info about them
