While I agree that this is stupid, why would a deaf person be using Spotify in the first place?
Based on anecdotal evidence, “I refuse” may be more common than you think. I live in Switzerland, and out of all the expats I know who have been here a long time (20+ years), a large percentage (over half) of them still can’t speak German. At all. Like, they can maybe say “thank you” but that’s about the extent of their vocabulary, and many of them actually seem to be quite proud of the fact that they’ve made absolutely zero attempt to integrate into the local community or culture.
Now, although I’m fully aware that there are a hell of a lot of differences between Switzerland and the US, it still wouldn’t be at all surprising to me if there were large groups of immigrants in the US who similarly resist learning English.
I find it hard to believe that the environmental impact of having a paper tag per shelf which gets replaced maybe once a week is worse than the impact of manufacturing, installing and powering one digital screen per shelf.
Sure, but even then there are plenty of cases where a solar panel doesn’t make much sense either. If you’re cutting down a tree in the woods, would you rather grab your gas-powered chainsaw out of your truck and cut down the tree, or grab your solar-powered chainsaw out of your truck, spend minutes setting up solar panels to pick up the small amount of sunlight which makes it to the forest floor, and then cut down the tree?
The point is there will always be a market for ICEs until there are batteries with competitive energy density to gasoline. You don’t see solar- or battery-powered trains or construction/mining equipment because these things need huge amounts of energy to work, energy which can be easily stored in a fairly small fuel tank (which can be quickly topped off when necessary).
A hybrid car is a very different beast than a diesel-electric train.
As long as it continues being one of the top games on steam by online player count, and/or it continues to make them boatloads of cash?

Why does everyone always complain about Nvidia support on Linux? I’ve been using Nvidia GPUs on Ubuntu and Debian for years and it has never required any more effort than ‘sudo apt install nvidia-driver’.

I wouldn’t be so sure about the lifetime - spinning up and spinning down put far more stress on the drive components than simply spinning at a constant rate.
What? People say that? I’ve literally never heard anyone speak that way unless they were either non-fluent speakers or doing a caveman impression.
Aside from letting you cram more circuitry onto the same size chip, smaller transistors means you can get better power efficiency and reduce heat output.
Basically, even if you just take an existing design and use it to make chips at a smaller node size, you get chips which run cooler and with less power. Those chips can then get you the same performance with better efficiency (e.g. same speed but better battery life), or you can crank up the speed so that you get more speed for the same amount of power as the original.
And as mentioned above, because the transistors are smaller, you can fit more stuff onto the chip. So you can make even more complex chips which also still run more efficiently than their predecessors (both because of the direct power savings from using smaller transistors, and because designs become more efficient).
